You can’t change the world without changing yourself

Now more than ever, businesses must serve all stakeholders – customers, employees, society, and investors – alike. Business can and should be a force for good. So, how can business leaders play a role in social innovation? As a first step, leaders should define a personal vision or theory of change.

What is a personal theory of change? It’s like a business model, but for personal impact.

All successful businesses have a business model; a theory that explains how they're going to make a profit. A theory of change is a complete theory of how a person plans to make an impact. If we’re clear on our individual purpose, we are much better placed to lead our teams and organisations to make a positive impact.

So, what is my theory of change? For me personally, it’s all about propelling myself and others to glorify and prioritise the things that really matter. I truly believe marketing has the power to create a positive impact on the world. I’m passionate about understanding human motivators and attitudes to create behaviour change. The dark arts of marketing can and should be used to get the best out of humanity. That’s what gets me out of bed in the morning.

Put simply, my personal theory of change: Grow the good.
